Brief History
The FA cup was first held in the season of 1871-72 and
is the oldest football competition in the world.
Which along with the fact that clubs of
all standards get drawn against each other, means
that every FA cup game is viewed by millions of football fans around
the world. Every true football fan tunes in to see if
there will be any giant killing ( premiership team).
The current holders of the FA cup, footballs greatest competition are Chelsea
who beat Portsmouth at Wembley on the
15 may 2010.
Eligible Teams
All clubs in the Premier League and football league are
automatically eligible. Also all the teams in the next
6 levels of the english football system are only
eligible if they have played in either of
the following competitions the season before.
- FA cup
- FA trophy
- FA vase
Newly formed clubs may not play in the FA cup
their first season and of course all eligible
teams must have a suitable stadium to host a
home tie.
